Want to find out what kind of teaching you can expect at Ashland Nazarene before you visit? We encourage you to choose a free tape of one of Pastor Jim's messages. We will send it out to you right away... NO STRINGS ATTACHED! You may choose from the following:

Bringing Out the Best in Your Children - Pastor Jim and his wife, Jeanne, team-teach this message on how to go about helping your kids grow up by encouraging parents to accept their child's uniqueness, to affirm their value, to trust them with responsibility, correct them without condemning them and lastly, to love them unconditionally.

• Building Bridges in our Marriage - Building a bridge of love and relationship to your spouse requires several commitments... not just the one you made at the altar! We need to make a commitment to a long-term, growing relationship, to serving our spouse, to shattering routine (variety is the spice of life!) and most importantly, we must make a commitment to a relationship with God.

• Surviving My Schedule - Pastor Jim leads you through a journey in Proverbs where we discover that there are three keys to reducing stress in our schedules. First of all, we must line up our priorities... you can be committed to a few things, but not a bunch of things. Secondly, we need to lighten up our attitudes. Sometimes we feel stress because, frankly, we take ourselves too seriously...and we don't take God seriously enough... so third, we must look up to God and reverence Him. Proverbs 10:27 "Reverence for God adds hours to each day."

• The Money Myths - Pastor Jim explores the myths that we have been tempted to believe about money. For example, many people think "Money is Evil," but the truth is that the LOVE of money is evil. Others think that it's a sin to be rich but the truth is there were rich, godly people in the Bible and throughout all time. How about the myth that says, "To be really spiritual, I've got to give all my money away"? Luke 16:9 says, "I tell you, [Jesus speaking] use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings."  Pastor Jim uses scripture to dismantle these myths about money so that you can find a way to enjoy what God gave you.

• Six Secrets of a Satisfying Marriage - Philippians 2:2 (Philips Translation) says, "...live together in harmony and love, as though you only had one mind and spirit between you." That verse is not just talking about the Church, it's a verse for our marriages and other relationships! With communication, consideration, compromise, courtship, commitment and Christ, you can have a satisfying marriage!

• God's Love Has Your Name on It - Have you ever felt like, "God loves other people, I know that, but He can't love me... I've been too bad." The truth is that the Bible says that the Lord himself said, "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with a loving-kindness." We all put on masks to get people to love us, but God sees behind the masks and HE LOVES US ANYWAY! Pastor Jim shows us from God's Word how much God loves us, even if we don't understand why!

• You Don't Have to Stay the Same - God uses five phases in our lives to change us. Pastor Jim uses an incident in the life of Jacob from Genesis 32 to explain that we all face a crisis, then must make a commitment. After a commitment we must confess that we're the problem and through that there is a conversion...we're given a new identity. Lastly, there is consecration... we can live a holy life, not on our own, but through God! The truth is that YOU CAN CHANGE with God's help!!

• The Truth About Worry - It's funny, and sad at the same time... we actually think that by worrying about stuff, we can change it! But that's a myth! The truth is that Jesus tells us all kinds of things that are wrong about worry: it's unreasonable, unnatural, unhelpful, unnecessary, and just plain, unchristian! But he doesn't just tell us what's wrong with worry, he provides the antidote! Pastor Jim explains that we can win the battle over worry by putting God first, by living a day at a time and by trusting God for the answers to situations that are beyond our control.

• Recovering From Tragedy - Pastor Jim shared this teaching the Sunday following the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Even in the midst of tragedy we can know that God cares for us and understands our hurt. That surely he did not cause the events, but is with us in the midst of them. This message applies to our lives whenever we experience tragedy and provides hope for the future... GOD IS WITH US!
